Fish auction halls

 

 
The Ebro Delta is one of the main sport fishing destinations in Europe, and therefore it also supplies professional fishermen with abundant catches. It is no wonder that the local ports account for a very significant part of all catches made in the Mediterranean. As an example of the fishing potential of its fleet, we have the port in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, founded in 1919. In this port alone, no less than 60 trawlers and 48 smaller boats are moored, unloading between 25 and 30 tonnes of fish a day. The fish auction halls are the meeting point between professional fishermen and the fish marketing chain. Once the fish boxes have been weighed and classified, the auctions start, no doubt providing an additional entertaining opportunity, as you can visit them and follow the whole process.
